Vision Coverage
Your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas plan includes vision care. These benefits are administered by Davis Vision®. We want to help you get the vision care you need. The plan includes routine vision care and eyeglasses. Vision providers take care of your eyes. You do not need an okay from your primary care provider (PCP) for vision care.
What is Covered?
When you use in-network providers, covered services includes:
- An eye exam every 12 months
- Glasses (standard lenses and frames)
- Contact lenses when medically necessary if glasses cannot provide the intended result
Check your Member Handbook to learn more. Or call the Customer Advocate Department for your plan. You can also visit to learn about services they offer.
What is Not Covered?
Your plan does not cover:
- Insurance for eyeglasses or contact lens (for example, if you lose or break them)
- Laser vision correction
- Anti-scratch, anti-reflective, or mirror coating
BCBSTX also offers an enhanced benefit for eyewear as a Value-Added Service. Please check Enhanced Eyewear for CHIP, STAR and STAR Kids members.
Prior Approval for Vision Care
Some vision care requires approval from BCBSTX. This approval is called “prior authorization.” You must receive this approval before treatment. If BCBSTX does not approve the service, the cost will not be covered (paid) by BCBSTX.
Check your Member Handbook to learn more about vision benefits. Or call the Customer Advocate Department for your plan.
