Special Beginnings® Program
Healthy Mom = Healthy Baby
Being pregnant can be a time filled with new and unexpected experiences. We want to make sure you have the support you need as you go through this special journey. BCBSTX offers the Special Beginnings program. It’s designed to help you better understand and manage your pregnancy. We recommend you enroll as soon as you know you are pregnant. That way you can take advantage of all the benefits of the program. Check below for more details.
Support from Certified Nurses
Get help with scheduling doctor visits and tests. This is important if you have health issues. You will be assigned a service coordinator. They will check in with you about your health. You can talk about how you and your baby are doing.
Stay on Track with Your Health
The Special Beginnings program is designed to help you stay on track with health care for each trimester. This includes regular doctor checkups, lab work and tests to check the health of you and your baby, eating healthy and more.
Get Health Rewards
Once you enroll in the program, you can earn rewards when you complete certain health screenings. Go to timely prenatal or post-partum doctor visits and you can. Find out more about rewards below
Health Education
Members have access to prenatal classes with Baby360™. Learn about pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and newborn care. You can also log in to our online member portal, Blue Access for Members℠, for other online resources in the Wellness section. There are a variety of topics to choose from.

Service Coordination for Pregnant Members
If you have health issues, service coordination can help you manage them. A service coordinator is a trained nurse who will be your main point of contact during your pregnancy. They will:
- Call you regularly to ask about your health and how you are doing.
- Help you learn about your plan benefits.
- Let you know about health care services you may need.
The service coordinator works with you and your providers to help you get the best care. They keep all your information confidential.
Get Help During and After Pregnancy
Service coordination also helps you with:
- Finding a prenatal care provider.
- Setting up your visits and tests with your OB provider. They can help you better understand when you should have care during your pregnancy and after your baby is born.
- Your health concerns and questions when your provider is not available.
- Learning about prenatal, postpartum and newborn care. This includes access to classes and info to help you learn about what to expect and how to make good choices to stay healthy.
- Non-emergency medical transportation (for example, to your doctor visits).
- Access to your Value-Added Services, including how to earn member rewards for completing certain healthy actions (for example, qualify to get a gift card when you complete a prenatal or post-partum doctor visit).
Program Incentives and Rewards
Once you join Special Beginnings, you can earn rewards when you take certain healthy actions. Get details and find out steps to take so you can access each of the benefits.
