Managing Your Active Status
Appointment Status Information
Here's what you need to know about completing the appointment process with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

Appointment Requirement
All independent producers and agencies must be contracted with us before selling our products. During the contracting process, independent producers and agencies are also officially "appointed." If you would like to request to contract with us, start here.
Agency principals and other subproducers don't contract with us, but they must be appointed by us in order for their parent agency to be compensated for BCBSTX sales. The agency manages the onboarding and appointment process for its subproducers.
Contracting, Onboarding and Appointments
Independent producers and agencies complete the contracting, appointment and onboarding process at the same time: during the digital contracting process. Agency principals and other subproducers use the same online system to complete the appointment and onboarding process.

Appointment Date
The date of your appointment with us must be dated before an effective date for a client’s policy in order for you or your agency to be eligible for the commissions from that sale.
Appointment Fees
Appointment fees apply to all producer types. For independent producers, your appointment fee is deducted from your commissions. The Agency, principal and subproducer fee is deducted from the commission of the parent agency. We do not pay principals and subproducers directly and we do not charge them separately for appointment fees.

Subproducer Onboarding Fee
There is a $2 one-time onboarding fee for each subproducer added to an agency's account. The fee is not annual; it's only when the subproducer is added. It covers the cost of the digital onboarding system.
Welcome Email
After the online onboarding and appointment process is complete, every producer type receives a welcome email. The welcome email is important because it includes the 9-digit producer ID number assigned to you. Keep this number safe. You'll need it to set up and log into your Blue Access for Producers™ account. Your ID number is attached to your parent agency (if you have one). It's also used on client applications. It's one of the ways we identify you.
