Texas House Bill 2056 adds teledentistry to the list of regulated telemedicine/telehealth services. For certain services, defined by the Texas dental board*, a dentist can meet with you remotely using video chat. Teledentistry benefits are covered at a similar level to in-office services.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) dental plans and health plans that include dental benefits already have teledentistry as a covered benefit, so nothing should change for you/your plan.
Members: Not all dentists offer teledentistry. You can search for a dentist near you by going to Find Care and selecting “Find a Dentist.” Then contact the dentist office to find out if they offer teledentist appointments.
Employers: Contact your BCBSTX account representative if you need more information.
*The Texas Dental Board will be updating rules to define which services are considered teledentistry.
