Making an Impact
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) has served Texans for more than 90 years, providing health care coverage in each of the state’s 254 counties. We are Texas born and bred, and we are proud to be the state’s largest health insurer.
We take our role as a customer-owned company seriously. We understand that it’s our job to be good stewards of our members’ health care dollars. At the end of the day, this mindset is the motivation behind everything we do.
To that end, we’re making investments in community organizations that share our goal of improving the health of Texans. BCBSTX has an ongoing commitment to reduce the burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the state. Through our partnerships with community-based organizations across the state, we’ve been successful in decreasing emergency room visits, while increasing primary doctor and specialist visits for these conditions, according to BCBSTX claims data.
Because we serve more than 6 million members, BCBSTX has a unique and big-picture perspective about the social and environmental influences that are affecting Texans. That’s why we’ve also invested in organizations that are committed to addressing social factors that impact health such as access to healthcare services, transportation, safe housing and economic opportunities, among others.
Investing in and partnering with like-minded organizations builds on BCBSTX's long history of supporting local communities and helping families and individuals thrive. Through our efforts, including nearly 20,000 employee volunteer hours, we were able to reach more than 4 million individuals and 400 organizations across the state. The stories included here help to demonstrate our commitment to our purpose — To Do Everything In Our Power To Stand With Our Members In Sickness And In Health®.
