Extra Support From a Health Advisor

Your health plan includes support for you and your covered family members from a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) health advisor – a nurse or other professional. This extra help is available at no added cost to you. If you get a call from a health advisor, we’re calling to help you take care of your health. Please answer or call us back.

BCBSTX may call to help you:

  • Get the care you need for serious illnesses or injuries
  • Have a healthy pregnancy and baby
  • If you have been in the hospital or have had a major surgery

Talk to a Nurse

When you need help deciding whether you should go to the emergency room or make an appointment with your doctor, 24/7 Nurseline is here to help. Call 1-833-968-1770 any time, day or night, with questions about fevers, burns and other health issues.

For medical emergencies, call 911. This program is not a substitute for a doctor’s care. Talk to your doctor about any health questions or concerns.

Know What Your Plans Require

You'll need to preauthorize certain covered health services to ensure you avoid unexpected costs. These include inpatient admissions and certain outpatient procedures and surgeries:

Inpatient admissions for:

  • Hospital
  • Rehabilitation
  • Skilled nursing
  • Long-term acute care/subacute care

Outpatient procedures and surgeries:

  • Spinal cord stimulation
  • Artificial intervertebral disc

Be sure to check your benefits information to see the full list of services that require preauthorization. Your network provider may preauthorize your service for you. To be certain, call a Personal Health Guide at 1-866-355-5999 before your appointment.
