Doctors and Hospitals

Choosing where to get care is an important part of getting the most value from your TRS-ActiveCare benefits. The providers and facilities you choose can affect your health care experience and your out-of-pocket costs.

Know Before You Go

Your plan gives you tools and resources to help you understand your options and make informed health care decisions before you get care. Before scheduling non-emergency services:

  • Know which providers and facilities are in network.
  • Review plan-specific resources that may affect your costs.
  • Call a Personal Health Guide at 1-866-355-5999 for help comparing options or understanding your benefits.

Taking time to understand your choices before you get care can make it easier to manage out-of-pocket expenses and make informed healthcare decisions.

NEW Provider and Facility Tiering

Some TRS-ActiveCare plans have tiering features designed to provide more transparency and encourage informed health care choices.

What's tiering? Providers and facilities are grouped into tiers based on quality, cost and best practice clinical guidelines. Tier 1 providers and facilities offer top performance and best value. You pay less when you choose Tier 1 and may pay more when you choose Tier 2.

You can still see a provider or go to a facility of your choice. Tiering simply gives you more information that may help you understand how your choice could affect your health care costs.

TRS-ActiveCare 2 and TRS-ActiveCare Primary x Arlington ISD plans

You have a new tiering feature that lowers your out-of-pocket costs when you choose cost-effective, quality providers, like a Primary Care Provider or specialist, for your care.

The provider you choose may affect your out-of-pocket costs. Understanding your options can help you make informed decisions about where you get care.

Before scheduling non-emergency services:

TRS-ActiveCare Primary x Region 4 plan (Houston Area)

You have a new tiering feature that lowers your out-of-pocket costs when you choose cost-effective, quality facilities for inpatient and outpatient care.

Choosing a facility and provider may be separate decisions. The facility where you get care may affect your out-of-pocket costs, even with the same provider.

Before scheduling non-emergency services:

Facility tier assignments are subject to change.
