As a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) CHIP member, you can find many network providers in the Travis service area. You have a wide choice of primary care providers, specialists, hospitals and pharmacies.
You should use in-network providers. If you choose to see a doctor who is not part of our network, you may have to pay for the services. Except in an emergency, the plan may not cover care received from out-of-network providers. Check with the provider to make sure that he or she is in the network before you get care.
See Out-of-Network Coverage for more information.
You also must choose a primary care physician (PCP) from Provider Network when you join. You can choose a different PCP for each member. A PCP is your main health care provider and will arrange your care with other doctors and hospitals. Your PCP can be a:
- Family or General Practitioner
- Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN)
- Internist (Internal Medicine)
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
- Clinic such as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or Rural Health Clinics (RHCs)
You can call customer service for help choosing a PCP or use the Provider Finder®.
The Provider Finder makes it easy to find a doctor or hospital in your area. Select the link below to open a new browser window and search for CHIP providers. When you're done, close that window and keep viewing this site.

Keep in mind that you may need to get approval for some services before you are treated. This is called "preauthorization." BCBSTX may not cover the service if you don't get approval.
