Find a Provider

As a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas CHIP member, you can find many network providers in the Travis service area. You have a wide choice of primary care providers (PCPs), specialists, hospitals and pharmacies. Learn more about providers in the sections below.

  • In-Network and Out-of-Network Providers

    You should use in-network providers. These providers are contracted with BCBSTX to provide medical care to members. You do not need a referral to go to a provider in our plan network.

    If you choose to go to a doctor who is not part of our network, you may have to pay for the services. Except in an emergency, the plan may not cover care that you get from an out-of-network provider. Check with the provider to make sure they are in the network before you get care.     Our network continues to grow. If you do not find a provider you are looking for, call the BCBSTX Customer Advocate Department toll-free at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY: 711).

    Keep in mind that you may need to get approval for some services before you are treated. This is called "preauthorization." BCBSTX may not cover the service if you don't get approval. You do not need an authorization for:

    • Emergency care
    • Medically necessary service from an in-network provider

     

  • Choosing a PCP

    You must choose a PCP from the provider network when you join. You can choose a different PCP for each member. A PCP is your main health care provider and will arrange your care with other doctors and hospitals. Your PCP can be a:

    • Pediatrician
    • Family or General Practitioner
    • Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN)
    • Internist (Internal Medicine)
    • Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
    • Clinic such as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or Rural Health Clinics (RHCs)

  • Counseling Referrals

    To find out if BCBSTX covers counseling referral services based on moral or religious objections, you should call the Customer Advocate Department. If you disagree with the outcome, you can file an appeal. Check Complaints and Appeals to learn more. For questions, please call us at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY: 711).

BCBSTX offers dental coverage as a Value-Added Service (VAS) for CHIP Perinate members. Liberty Dental provides our VAS dental plan. If you have questions, call us at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY: 711).

Need Help Finding a Doctor?

With our secure member portal, Blue Access for MembersSM (BAMSM), you can manage your health plan from your computer or smartphone. You can search for a doctor, as well as choose or change your PCP.

We can help you find a provider. We also can help you schedule an appointment using a 3-way call with your provider. Send us a secured message through the BAM Secure Message Center and get a reply back from us. Or you can call us at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY: 711).
