Changes to Pharmacy Network for Some Commercial Members, Effective May 1, 2026

April 30, 2026

Starting May 1, 2026, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will launch Pharmacy Match with Prime Therapeutics LLC. This program expands the specialty pharmacy network and matches members who need specialty medications with qualified pharmacies.

How does it work? Pharmacy Match uses technology to match a member to an appropriate in-network specialty pharmacy for their prescription. The match is based on a set of custom-configured rules, including clinical services, access and dynamic market pricing for covered specialty medications. Prime works with Free Market Health to streamline the referral process.

Which members have access? This program applies to our fully insured plans. For some commercial members, it is an employer group option. This program does not apply to Medicare or Medicaid members.

What you should know
How to start a member on a specialty medication with Pharmacy Match:

  • E-prescribe to Free Market Health Pharmacy (National Provider Identifier: 1366292880). You can also reach the FMH team via email, call 412-755-3241 or fax 833-998-4435.

  • Continue to submit prior authorization requests to BCBSTX when required for medications covered under the member’s pharmacy benefit.
  • Once the prior authorization, if needed, has been approved, Free Market Health will indicate what pharmacy accepted the referral and transfer the prescription. You will get a fax with the pharmacy assignment. Free Market Health or the pharmacy may contact you for inquiries or requests related to the prescription. Note: New pharmacies may contact you.
  • The matched pharmacy will contact your patient to begin onboarding and coordinate delivery.
  • You can call 877-787-0520 or email Free Market Health if you have any questions.

For more information, see our Specialty and Pharmacy Match Programs page. If your patients have questions, they can call the number on their member ID card.

The relationship between BCBSTX and the pharmacies is that of independent contractors. Pharmacy Match is administered by Prime Therapeutics LLC, an independent company contracted by BCBSTX to provide pharmacy solutions. BCBSTX, as well as several Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans, has an ownership interest in Prime Therapeutics.

Free Market Health is an independent health care technology company that optimizes the drug process for payers, pharmacies and patients.
