We’re Updating Our Payment Systems to Help Improve Efficiencies

Oct. 21, 2025

In January 2026, we will upgrade financial systems to modernize our payment processing technology.  These changes will help increase efficiency and enhance the security of our payment technology.

What’s changing: If you currently receive paper checks from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and are enrolled with Zelis Payments Network, you will receive payments by virtual credit card or Zelis ACH+ payments.

We’re also expanding the number of banks we contract with to distribute payments. This change helps ensure payments are made in the event of a possible systematic issue.

All electronic claim summary documents will be sent to your clearinghouse in PDF format.

As part of our efforts to reduce paper check distribution, we’ll leverage existing Zelis relationships with providers to issue electronic payments to providers who are enrolled with Zelis in accordance with selected preferences.  If you prefer to continue receiving paper checks from BCBSTX and don’t wish to switch to Zelis electronic payments, please contact us and include your TIN. We can set your payments to remain in the current check format.

What’s not changing: If you currently receive claim payments from BCBSTX via:

  • Electronic Funds Transfer: No action is needed on your part.
  • Paper check and aren’t enrolled in the Zelis Payments Network: You will continue to receive paper check payments. However, we encourage you to enroll in EFT to expedite the claim payment process. Learn how to enroll in EFT at no charge on our provider website.
  • If you’re enrolled for EFT and part of the Zelis Payments Network: You will continue to receive the electronic payment from BCBSTX.
  • If you’re already part of the Zelis Payments Network and currently receive ACH+ or virtual credit cards: No action is needed.
