Providers have the opportunity to request the method to receive their Prior Authorization (PA) exemption communications*. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) will be sending out notifications for new PA exemptions for the Jan-June 2023 review period by Sept. 1.
Electronic Access to PA Exemption Status
All notifications for PA exemptions are viewable in the secure section of the BCBSTX-branded Payer Spaces on Availity®. If you are not currently registered for Availity, you can do so at with no charge on Availity Essentials or by contacting Availity Client Services at 1-800-282-4548 to get access. Refer to Prior Authorizatons Exemptions page on the BCBSTX provider website for how to access notifications on Availity.
Alternate PA Exemption Communication Methods
If you prefer to have your PA exemption status communication sent via an alternate method (email or postal mail), you must submit the request by completing the Prior Authorization Exemption Communication Method Preference Questionnaire.
Any new or change to alternate preference requests we receive by July 31, 2023, will be used for the Sept. 1 notices. If you have previously submitted a questionnaire and have no changes, BCBSTX will continue to honor your requested preference. All PA exemptions will be available via Availity by Sept. 1, 2023 regardless if you submit an alternate request.
* Prior authorization exemption notice preferences for prior authorizations managed by a Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) may be conveyed by the PBM.
