Lantern - A Surgery Benefit

Participants who work in Region 10, 11 or 14 have a new surgery benefit

If a participant is looking to schedule a surgery, Lantern can help. This new benefit available to them helps with some of the most expensive costs of having surgery. Meaning, they'll pay less out of pocket.

Lantern covers these surgeries:

  • joint replacement and revisions
  • spinal
  • bariatric (not covered on the TRS-ActiveCare HD plan)

Lantern coverage includes:

  • appointments
  • anesthesia
  • procedure and hospital fees
  • support and guidance
  • surgeon

How it Works

Schedule a surgery through Lantern and get up to a $1,500 incentive that lowers the total cost. If they have the TRS-ActiveCare HD plan, they must meet their deductible before they get the incentive up to $1,500.

They can call a Care Advocate at 1-833-423-0960 to get started. A Care Advocate will:

  • help them understand their benefits
  • guide them every step of the way
  • provide them with resources about care
  • check to see if a surgeon they already have is in the Lantern network
  • help them find a surgeon

Travel Benefits

Lantern helps with costs if they need to travel to a Lantern provider. Benefits include:

  • up to $100 for gas
  • $35 per person, per day for them and one companion
  • hotel and airfare, if necessary

For the TRS-ActiveCare HD plan, travel benefits aren't available until after they meet their deductible.
