CHRISTUS Health Negotiation

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is negotiating new contracts with CHRISTUS Health. We’re working hard to reach new agreements, but if we don’t, CHRISTUS Health doctors, facilities and hospitals will no longer be in network on July 1, 2025. This affects many plans at BCBSTX, not just TRS-ActiveCare.

We have a long and positive relationship with CHRISTUS Health, but participants are our priority. We want to reach an agreement that will continue to give them access to CHRISTUS Health doctors, facilities and hospitals at fair prices.

Why It Matters

If BCBSTX and CHRISTUS Health don’t sign new contracts before July 1, 2025, CHRISTUS Health doctors, facilities and hospitals won’t be in network for health plans at BCBSTX, including TRS-ActiveCare.

  • TRS-ActiveCare Primary
  • TRS-ActiveCare Primary+
  • TRS-ActiveCare HD
  • TRS-ActiveCare 2

Why Negotiate

As a customer-owned health insurance industry leader in Texas for 95 years, we advocate on your behalf for high-quality, cost-effective health care. Our goal is to protect your access to quality care at affordable rates. It's a responsibility BCBSTX takes seriously.

Next Steps

This may impact participants if CHRISTUS Health goes out of network. BCBSTX can help make their move to other facilities as seamless as possible if they need new care options on or after July 1, 2025:

  • They can always access in-network hospitals and facilities in BCBSTX’s robust network.
  • BCBSTX will work with them on continuing their care, if eligible.
  • BCBSTX can help them schedule a visit with other in-network providers.

They can always use Provider Finder to find in-network hospitals and facilities in BCBSTX’s robust network. They can also call a Personal Health Guide at 1-866-355-5999 anytime to find new doctors or for help with their plan.

In the case of a life-threatening illness or injury, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away. Emergency services are always covered at the in-network benefit level.
