Medicare Ready

The UT CARETM Medicare PPO is the Medicare plan for UT System retirees and their Medicare-eligible dependents. If you are retired and turning 65 soon, or still working and nearing your 65th birthday, it's time to get ready for Medicare. Let’s explore Medicare coverage, your next steps and the UT CARE plan.

Here's what you need to know to prepare for Medicare and UT CARE.

Enrollment in UT CARE is automatic after you take these required actions.

1. You must be a retiree enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to be a member of the plan. You must also continue to pay your Part B premium.  If you are eligible for Medicare Part A and/or Part B but are not enrolled, please contact Social Security right away.

2. Enrollment in UT CARE cannot procced without the MBI number.

Once you are enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B, please share your 11-character MBI (Medicare Beneficiary Identifier), located on your red, white, and blue Medicare card, along with your Medicare effective date, with BCBSTX at 1-877-842-7562 TTY 711. Or, you can enter it yourself by logging into My UT Benefits.

If you are currently enrolled in UT SELECTTM, you will remain in that plan while your Medicare enrollment is being processed. If you are enrolled in UT CONNECTTM, your coverage will be changed to UT SELECT until your UT CARE coverage is confirmed.

UT CARE coverage is effective on the first day of the month following the date your enrollment information is received and approved by Medicare, or the Medicare Part A and Part B effective date, whichever is later.

Not retired yet?
If you are not retired, you do not need to take any action. You will remain in your current plan until you retire. Be sure to let your Benefit Office know your plans if you are retiring soon.

When you turn 65, you may want to enroll in Medicare Part A. Enroll at your local Social Security office or online at www.ssa.gov/benefits/medicare.
