Estimating costs before you get care

Budgeting is easier with TRS-Care Standard. There are three ways to estimate costs for your care upfront, so you aren’t surprised with a bill later:

1. Use the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) Cost Estimator Tool in Provider Finder^®. This tool helps you make more informed health care choices by estimating the out-of-pocket costs of more than 1,600 procedures, treatments, and tests before you head to the doctor. That way, you know what to expect before your appointment.
2. Use the CVS Cost Estimator Tool to see if your medication is covered and what it’ll cost before you go to the pharmacy.
3. Call a Personal Health Guide (PHG). PHG’s act as health advocates, helping you navigate your coverage. You can call a PHG at 1-866-355-5999, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help you estimate the costs of specialist visits, X-rays, or other diagnostic tests.

A PHG can also assist you around the clock with:

• Claims and benefits question
• Finding in-network providers
• Medical and prescription drug benefits
• Prior authorizations
• Scheduling appointments
• Transitioning care, and more
