Video: Creating Safe Places to Play for Austin’s Most Vulnerable Children

Do the kids in your community have a safe space to be healthy and active? On Jan. 29, 2019, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) revealed a KaBOOM! Imagination Playground to the kids of Austin Achieve School.

This tuition-free, open enrollment public charter school prepares East Austin youth to attend and excel at top universities. One in four children in this community live in poverty, making their future especially vulnerable. To date, BCBSTX has partnered with KaBOOM! to provide nearly 50 different safe, fun and creative places for Texas kids to play. The efforts are part of BCBSTX’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® (HKHF) initiative to improve the health and wellness of Texas children through community investments.
