COVID-19 Coverage for Members

Your health is always our priority. Your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) health plan gives you access to the care you need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If You Feel You May Have the Virus:

  • Call your doctor. Your doctor will decide if you need to be tested and tell you where to go.
  • If you don’t have a doctor, we can help you find one. Call us at the Customer Service number on your member ID card.
  • You can also find an in-network doctor or testing site by logging in to Blue Access for MembersSM.

Testing and Treatment

With a BCBSTX health plan, you have easy access to care for COVID-19 related health issues:

Testing: Lab tests to diagnose COVID-19 are covered at no cost share.

Testing-Related Visits: Visits to get COVID-19 testing are covered at no cost to you at in-network clinics and facilities.

Treatment: Most BCBSTX members won’t pay for COVID-19 treatment at a network facility or any emergency facility (ER).

About Our Cost-Sharing Waivers for Treatment

Cost-sharing waivers for COVID-19 treatment are offered for members of all fully insured group, individual, Medicare (excluding Part D), Medicare Supplement, and Medicaid plans from April 1 through Oct. 23, 2020.

Many self-funded groups are also waiving cost-sharing for COVID-19 treatment. If you are unsure about your plan, contact your company’s benefits administrator or call BCBSTX Customer Service at the number listed on your member ID card.

In some instances, a provider that doesn’t contract with BCBSTX may not accept the amount we pay as payment in full. In that instance, they may send you a bill for the remaining balance. We encourage you to use providers who are in your health plan’s network.

Prescription Coverage

With BCBSTX pharmacy benefits*, you can temporarily get an early refill on many of your current prescriptions because of COVID-19. You may also be able to get up to a 90-day fill (based on plan benefits) of covered non-specialty medications at select drugstores or by mail order.

  • At your drugstore: Call your pharmacy directly to ask for an early fill or 90-day fill, and about any delivery options they offer. 
  • By mail: You can also sign up online or call the number on your BCBSTX member ID card for mail-order delivery with AllianceRx Walgreens Prime.

Mental Health Services

Coping with the stress and anxiety of COVID-19 can be overwhelming. Remember to take care of your mental health.

  • If you need help, call your primary care doctor. They may be able to see you over the phone or by video chat. Or they may refer you to someone else. Your health plan covers mental health services, including counseling.
  • Many BCBSTX health plans include 24/7 phone access to licensed mental health care specialists as part of the mental health coverage. The number may be listed on your member ID card, or you can call Customer Service to find out if you have this benefit.

Telehealth

Need to see a doctor? Depending on your health plan, you may be able to see a provider in your health plan’s network by phone or video.

Our telehealth benefits give members access to care while reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19. And you won’t pay copays, deductibles, or coinsurance on covered services when you use a provider in your health plan’s network.
