Effective January 1, 2026, all City of Austin Medicare-eligible retirees and their Medicare-eligible dependents will receive medical and prescription drug coverage under the City of Austin retiree MAPD Open Access PPO plan administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.
- To be eligible for the Medicare Advantage Plan, you must be enrolled in Medicare Part A & Part B.
- If you are eligible for Medicare due to disability and are under the age of 65, you may continue coverage on the traditional plan (PPO, HMO, CDHP) or enroll in the Medicare Advantage Plan.
- If you are eligible for Medicare due to age, the traditional plan is no longer available. You may continue coverage by enrolling in the Medicare Advantage Plan.
- To enroll in the Medicare Advantage Plan, please call the Employee Benefits Division at 512-974-3284 and provide a copy of your Medicare card.
- Your Medicare-eligible dependent may enroll in the Medicare Advantage plan or remain on the traditional plan if you are not yet Medicare eligible.
- You may opt out of the Medicare Advantage plan. To waive medical, call 888-584-2919 or log into Workday. The link to Workday can be found at www.austintexas.gov/retirees.

Important Note
You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to be a member of this retiree plan. You must also continue to pay your Part B premium, just as you do today. If you are eligible for Medicare Part A and/or Part B but are not enrolled, please contact Social Security right away. You can enroll online at www.ssa.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
