Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Promotes Dr. Paul Hain to Divisional Senior Vice President, Market Delivery and Chief Medical Officer

RICHARDSON, TEXAS – In a move to align around operational initiatives, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announced recently that Dr. Paul Hain has been promoted to chief medical officer and divisional senior vice president market delivery. Hain recently served as president, North Texas Market Strategy.

In this new role, Dr. Hain will oversee BCBSTX’s public relations, community investments as well as government relations and lobbying efforts. He will also serve as executive sponsor for Medicaid and Medicare in Texas while continuing to support the Texas Network, Performance, Strategy and the enterprise sales and marketing teams.

“Dr. Hain is well-suited to this new responsibility,” said Dr. Dan McCoy, president of BCBSTX. “His strong health care expertise and business insights have contributed greatly to the operational strategies and growth of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. It has been my goal since becoming president of the Texas plan to build a leadership team in Texas that brings value not only to our members, but all Texans. I am confident that Dr. Hain will continue to contribute to the future success of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.”

Before joining BCBSTX, Dr. Hain was vice president and medical director of population health and network development at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and associate professor of pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Hain was also the associate chief of staff and medical director for quality at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, where he was the founder of the Pediatric Hospitalist Program. He has completed terms on both the American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Committee.

Academically, Dr. Hain has published in multiple journals and lectured nationally concerning the varied topics of quality improvement, risk management, readmissions, patient throughput, the use of the APR-DRG system, and dashboard use in hospital medicine.

An active participant in the North Texas community, Dr. Hain serves as a member of the Advisory Council for the UT Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management; Health, Wellness & Life Sciences Council for the Urban Land Institute of North Texas; Advisory Committee for Fort Worth’s Blue Zones Project; and co-chair of North Texas Health Alliance.

Dr. Hain received his MD from the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, and he completed his pediatrics residency at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Prior to that, Dr. Hain received his BS in Engineering from Rice University, and subsequently worked as a corrosion engineer in Alaska.
