Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and Sanitas USA Open Meyerland Medical Center to Advance Primary and Value-Based Care

RICHARDSON, Texas — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and Sanitas USA (Sanitas) announced today the opening of the sixth primary care medical center in the Houston region offering an integrated, holistic approach to patients’ health by providing multiple health care services — under one roof.

The new medical center located at 10101 S. Post Oak Road in the Meyerland community in a 5,500-square-foot facility will serve as a one-stop shop for BCBSTX members delivering primary care, telehealth visits, urgent care, lab and diagnostic imaging services, and wellness and chronic disease management programs. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Meyerland Medical Center also will feature bilingual clinical staff, while BCBSTX customer service representatives will be on the premises to help members coordinate non-clinical aspects of their care such as answering questions in English and Spanish about enrollment, Medicare and other questions related to health insurance. The medical centers service BCBSTX card holders and accept self-pay patients and seniors with traditional Medicare coverage.

“The Sanitas model with primary care as its foundation, targets closing the gaps and fragmentation that exists in health care,” said Dr. Leslie Weisberg, market chief medical officer for BCBSTX. “Primary care is particularly important during this time when many are reluctant to seek care. It’s important that our members and the public not put off care. By offering primary care and other services, such as telehealth visits in one place, Sanitas makes quality health care options accessible not only for our members and their families, but the general public as well.”

The medical centers are also a focus of the MyBlue Health HMO network, which allows members to enjoy a $0 copay for primary care in-person and primary care telehealth appointments with their Sanitas primary care physician.

“Sanitas provides a unique focus on quality care of the patient,” said Dr. Jeff Gubbels, who serves as the Texas medical director for Sanitas. “It’s about taking good care of the patient and addressing the complete needs of the patient. One of the things we want to do is reach those communities that have been traditionally underserved by the health care system. All of the communities that have been overlooked are an opportunity for us.”

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and the Caring Foundation of Texas is also collaborating with Sanitas to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to the public as well provide mobile vaccination sites through the Care Van program.

In addition to the Meyerland location, other Houston region locations are:

  • Katy, 2610 N Mason Rd., Katy, 77449
  • Willowbrook, 12302 Jones Road, 77070
  • Southbelt, 12823 Gulf Freeway, 77034
