The Texas Health and Human Services Commission will allow providers to enroll in Texas Medicaid as rural emergency hospitals effective Sept. 1, 2025. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will implement the appropriate system and operational change requirements for rural emergency hospitals in Texas by Sept. 1, 2025.
This includes the following:
- Recognizing the rural emergency hospital provider type on the master provider file. This will be available in the Provider Enrollment and Management System to allow providers to complete:
- New enrollment
- Revalidation
- Re-enrollment
- Existing enrollment for designated rural emergency hospital providers.
- Paying the rural emergency hospitals in accordance with Texas Medicaid policies as defined by the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedure Manual; and
- Updating provider education materials, websites, policy manuals and other relevant documentation to include rural emergency hospital policies and information.
