Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Acquires Allegian Health Plans' Membership in Texas

RICHARDSON, Texas – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announced today it has acquired certain Medicare Advantage and commercial group membership from Allegian Health Plans (AHP), a wholly-owned managed care subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare (NYSE: THC).

All regulatory requirements have been satisfied for BCBSTX and Allegian to complete this transaction. This transaction includes nearly 20,000 members, enrolled through small, medium and large employer groups, as well as Medicare Advantage plans.

"We are excited to welcome Allegian Health Plans members into the Blue Cross and Blue Shield family, and we will work closely with Allegian's members, doctors, and other health care professionals to address each individual's health care needs, while helping them successfully navigate the evolving health care system," said Dr. Dan McCoy, president of BCBSTX. "We are working closely with AHP leaders to ensure a smooth transition for our new members."

This acquisition follows Tenet Healthcare and BCBSTX entering into multi-year Medicare and commercial contracts, providing members uninterrupted in-network access to Tenet's hospitals, outpatient centers and employed physicians in Texas.

Tenet Healthcare and BCBSTX will continue to build on their strong history and long-term relationship to service BCBSTX members with highly coordinated, cost-effective, quality care.
