What is the Affordable Care Act?

The Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010. The new federal law impacts both employer-sponsored group health plans and individual and family consumer policies. The Affordable Care Act includes provisions that take effect between now and 2018.

The key goals of the new law are to:

• Expand coverage using existing vehicles and programs
• Remove barriers to coverage
• Address affordability issues
