Vaccines

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the flu and COVID-19 will be spreading at the same time this year, which makes this season even more dangerous. If you’re a TRS health plan participant, you have no-cost COVID-19 and flu resources.

COVID-19 Resources

TRS health plans cover COVID-19 vaccines at 100%

Getting vaccinated is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19, prevent infection by Delta or other variants, and protect yourself against serious illness if you do contract COVID-19.

New COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to be largely limited to the unvaccinated, with only a small percentage of vaccinated people experiencing breakthrough infections. The CDC recommends everyone over 12 years old who is eligible to get vaccinated.

Approved and available vaccines include:

  • The Pfizer vaccine, available for individuals 12 years of age and older
  • The Moderna vaccine, available for individuals 18 years of age and older
  • The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, available for individuals 18 years of age and older

In addition, the Pfizer booster shot is currently available for those who received their first Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago, and:

The Moderna booster shot is recommended for those who received their first Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago, and:

The Johnson & Johnson booster shot is recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.

You can get help scheduling a vaccine by calling a Personal Health Guide (PHG) at 1-866-355-5999, 24 hours a day, seven days a week or by visiting the Texas Public Health Vaccine Scheduler.

COVID-19 Tests

TRS health plans cover COVID-19 tests at 100%

If you have symptoms, you should get tested. Call a PHG at 1-866-355-5999,  24 hours a day, seven days a week, to find a test site near you.

Flu Resources

TRS-ActiveCare covers flu vaccines at 100% when you go to an in-network provider or facility.

Millions of people contract the flu every year, and thousands are hospitalized. With the flu and COVID-19 spreading at the same time this year, it’s even more important to get your flu shot.

Get vaccinated for the flu every year. You’re not protected against different strains that circulate every year.

Annual flu shots are available and approved for everyone over six months, with few exceptions. Your doctor or facility will be able to tell you which vaccine is right for you depending on your age and health.

You can get a flu shot at your doctor’s office and many clinics and pharmacies. Call a PHG at 1-866-355-5999, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for help finding an in-network provider.
