Non-Emergency Transportation Services

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) can help you get a ride to your health care appointments, health classes or therapy. We will send a wheelchair van if needed.

Please call our Customer Service at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY 7-1-1) at least 24 hours before your appointment to schedule.

Ride Share Program

If you are a BCBSTX STAR member in need of a ride to a medically necessary, non-emergency health care appointment scheduled in less than 48 hours, you can use BCBSTX’s new Ride Share Program. The service is part of BCBSTX’s Value-Added Service (VAS) Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT). The Ride Share Program can give you a ride to and from doctor visits, therapy, the pharmacy, WIC visits, BCBSTX member events and meetings and approved health classes that will occur in less than 48 hours.

Rides must be approved as we do with our current VAS transportation program. You can schedule a ride by calling BCBSTX Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY: 7-1-1) and picking the transportation option. BCBSTX Customer Service is available from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Central Time, Monday through Friday.

How do I get transport benefits?

BCBSTX STAR members can get help through our non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) vendor, Logisticare, when the HHSC Medical Transportation Program (MTP) is not available. Logisticare is an independent company providing transportation services for STAR members of BCBSTX.

STAR members should first call MTP at 1-877-633-8747 to schedule rides. Learn more about MTP transportation services.

If MTP is unable to help you and you still need help getting a ride, please call the BCBSTX Customer Service at 1-888-657-6061 to schedule a ride. We still ask you to schedule your ride three days before your scheduled appointment, or 24 hours before a sick child visit.

Please have this information ready when you call:

  • Your full name, current address and phone number
  • Your member ID number
  • The date you want to ride
  • The name, address and phone number of where you are going
  • What kind of appointment you are going to
  • If you will need a wheelchair van or some other kind of helpduring your trip

NEMT is for STAR members when MTP is not available; NEMT is for STAR members when MTP is not available. Please schedule your ride three days before your scheduled appointment, or 24 hours before a sick child visit.
