Providers: Tell Your Billing Agency to Check Claim Status Online

If your practice utilizes a billing service or clearinghouse to submit claims to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), it is important that you let them know they can obtain basic claim status electronically.

We have noticed an increase in calls from billing services and written correspondence to our Provider Customer Service area inquiring about claim status. As a time-saving alternative, billing services and clearinghouses should take advantage of the electronic options we offer for routine claim status quotes. This will allow our Customer Advocates the opportunity to address and resolve more complex issues.

By becoming a registered Availity® user, your billing agency can also access Availity's secure, online Claim Research Tool (CRT) to conduct an unlimited number of basic or detailed claim status inquiries, at no additional charge, with printable results. For details, see the CRT Tip Sheet .

Your billing agency or clearinghouse can learn more and register with Availity by visiting, or by calling (800) AVAILITY (282-4548) for assistance. In addition to Availity, there are other third party electronic connectivity vendors that offer enhanced claim status tools and other online products and support services. Ask your preferred electronic business vendor for details.

The self-service tools provide up-to-the-minute information regarding claim status and payment data.  Since these tools are available to all providers, including billing services, BCBSTX will no longer be handling basic claim status inquiries through our written correspondence channel.  We appreciate servicing your basic claim status needs via our telephone system or on-line.
