foodQ Rolls Out Healthy Meal Delivery to Dallas Food Deserts

Supermarkets full of fresh, nutritious foods are hard to reach for millions of Americans, and poor access to healthy food contributes to chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes.

To help fill this gap in Dallas, a pilot meal delivery service debuted this summer targeting food deserts in 15 ZIP codes. The service, called foodQSM, was introduced by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and the Blue Cross Blue Shield InstituteSM. foodQ works with Dallas-based Front Porch Pantry to prepare and deliver the meals.

“Many people in the community have to take buses — sometimes two buses — to get to the local grocery store, said Chris Simmons, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in South Dallas - Fair Park. Cornerstone hosted a foodQ tasting for members of the community ahead of the launch.

“We’re looking forward to being a healthier community as a result of this service,” Simmons said.

The Dallas deliveries build on on a foodQ pilot launched earlier this year in Chicago. Residents of these 15 ZIP codes included in the Dallas pilot can order meals and subscribe online
