Working to add network providers
We understand the importance of having a broad provider network to serve you. There currently are more than 50,000 providers in the HealthSelectSM network across the State of Texas, with providers being added on a regular basis. BCBSTX is working diligently with the Employees Retirement System of Texas to bring more doctors into the network by September 1, and we’ll continue to recruit providers after the new plan year begins. If your current provider is not listed in the HealthSelect network, you can nominate her/him using this form.
HealthSelect of Texas and Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM offer a wide range of health care benefits and programs to help you stay healthy. We want you to get the most from your health plan – to help you be healthier and to save money.
With HealthSelect of Texas and Consumer Directed HealthSelect, you have access to a large provider network in Texas. You can see any health care provider, but you will pay more, possibly much more, if a doctor, hospital or other provider is not in the HealthSelect provider network.
A note about hospital-based providers
Even if a hospital is in the HealthSelect network, the doctors, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and other providers who practice at that hospital may not be! It’s important to find out if all your providers are in the network before scheduling a surgery or procedure.
If you are planning a visit to a hospital or outpatient facility, these lists of facilities and doctors can help you see the network status for hospital-based doctors in Texas.
Mental health network
Our mental health program can help with an emotional problem, provide counseling for an ongoing situation, or support you through a difficult health challenge.
Referrals and prior authorizations
The HealthSelect of Texas plan requires that you choose a primary care physician (PCP) to coordinate your health care needs. This includes referrals for specialty care. You receive the highest level of benefits and save the most money when you manage your health care needs with your PCP.
PCP referrals are not required for the following services: eye exams, OB/GYN visits, mental health counseling, outpatient therapies (including chiropractic visits), virtual visits, urgent care centers and convenience care clinics.
Prior authorization is required for certain covered health services. In general, your network PCP and other network providers are responsible for obtaining prior authorization before they provide these services to you. There are some covered health services, however, for which you are responsible for obtaining prior authorization. Prior authorization is required even if you have a referral from your PCP to seek care from another network physician.
