Serving Our Members in 2019
A Message from Our President
Nov. 1, 2018
Like many in the health care industry, we believe ZIP code is as important as genetic code in deciding a person's health. That's why we provide access to health care in every ZIP code in Texas — through all life stages, market changes and natural disasters. Through it all, we're focused on expanding coverage to as many families and individuals, young and old.
As open enrollment season starts for many of you, we're proud to once again provide comprehensive coverage across Texas. Whether you get your health plan from your employer, on the individual marketplace or through a broker — we're dedicated to providing more affordable products. That includes access to tools to help you make the best choices for you and your family.
Our work doesn't stop here. Many in our communities still can't pay for health coverage. That's why we're investing in ways to make health care more affordable and easier to access for all Texans.
We're strengthening our partnership with doctors, hospitals and care providers to improve quality of care for our members in Texas. We're digging deeper to understand the needs of our members. That's so we can provide peace of mind and empower whole-person health. Since healthier communities make health care more affordable for everyone, we'll keep being a valuable contributor to the communities we share with our neighbors, friends and members of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.
In 2019, we celebrate 90 years of making health care more affordable and accessible in each of the 254 Texas counties we serve. We look forward to the next chapter in our history of protecting Texans — through it all.
Dr. Dan McCoy
President, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas
Texas Judge Rules Individual Mandate Unconstitutional. Nothing Changes for Our Members.
Dec. 16, 2018
You may be aware that a federal judge in Texas ruled that the individual mandate was unconstitutional, and that the entire Affordable Care Act was invalid. For now, nothing changes; current and 2019 coverage remains in place for our members and employers.
We expect this decision to be appealed, and for the litigation process to continue for a period of time. We are currently reviewing the decision and will keep you updated on any next steps.
Meanwhile, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas continues to work with state and federal regulators and legislators to ensure a stable and affordable health insurance market that is accessible to all Americans regardless of health status.
