Short-Term Health Insurance Plans
Basic Coverage for 1-11 Months
Short-term health insurance (also called temporary health insurance) can give you peace of mind while you look for a new job. It’s a low-cost option that can start within 24 hours.
You can customize your plan based on your:
- Start date
- Length of coverage (1- 11 Months)
Even if you and your family are healthy, temporary insurance shields you from paying the full cost of treating an unexpected injury or illness.
Very important: Short-term plans give you basic health care coverage, but they don't meet the minimum essential coverage requirements of the Affordable Care Act. As a result, you may have to pay a tax penalty and you can’t receive federal financial assistance with these plans.
Short-Term Health Insurance Eligibility
- Texas residents ages 60 days to 65 years old
- Non-expectant parents
- Unmarried children ages 60 days old and under 25 years old
- U.S. citizens or non-U.S. citizens living in the United States for at least two years (a copy of your Alien Registration Receipt Card must be sent in when you apply)
