Major Medical Coverage for 12+ Months

If you’re not sure whether you’ll find a job or other coverage in the next 11 months, longer-term health insurance may be right for you. These plans (also called comprehensive) are most like the group health plan your last employer offered. They offer a wide range of services like:

  • Annual checkups
  • Specialist visits
  • Option to buy dental coverage

Since longer-term health insurance offers more coverage and fixed out-of-pocket expenses, they often cost more each month than short-term plans. But the Affordable Care Act (also called health care reform) includes discounts — based on your household size and income — that may lower your monthly costs.

In the past, if you had a pre-existing condition, you may have had trouble getting insurance. With the new health care law, everyone can get coverage.
