BCBSTX and HMO Blue®
Texas Unique ID Numbers |
BCBSTX and HMO Blue Texas member/subscriber identification
(ID) numbers have been changed from Social Security Numbers
(SSNs) to a unique ID number. Exception:
HealthSelect (Group 38000) will continue to use SSNs for member/subscriber
numbers until July 1, 2005.
These changes have been made in response to legislative requirements
that prohibit the use of SSNs for identification purposes
on many health care transactions.
All BCBSTX and HMO Blue Texas employer groups continue to
use an all numeric member/subscriber ID number preceded by
a three digit alpha prefix. It is important for you and your
staff to note that these ID numbers are no longer the same
as your patient or subscriber's SSN. All BCBSTX and HMO Blue
Texas employer groups (with the exception of HealthSelect)
have been issued new ID cards to
reflect the unique ID number.
It is always a good practice to confirm the member/subscriber
ID number on a regular basis for eligibility and benefit determination
requests and claims filing purposes. Submitting your claims
with the incorrect member/subscriber ID number may result
in your claim being delayed or rejected. In addition, all
BCBSTX Provider Claim Summaries and HMO Blue Texas Explanation
of Payments reflect the group number and member/subscriber
ID number under which the claim was processed. We recommend
you check the member/subscriber ID number provided on your
remittance notice for any applicable updates.
HealthSelect
Unique ID Numbers |
On July 1, 2005, HealthSelect (Group 38000)
will convert to unique identification (ID) numbers. All participants
will be issued new ID cards with
a unique ID number as the subscriber number in late June.
Please use this new subscriber number
for all claims and inquiries to BCBSTX effective July 1, 2005.
