Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is licensed as a sponsor of the Bridges to Excellence®  (BTE) Diabetic Care Recognition Program, Cardiac Care Recognition Program and the Asthma Care Recognition Programs.  The Diabetic, Cardiac, and Asthma Care Programs all aim to improve care for patients with diabetes, cardiac or asthma conditions by rewarding physicians who provide exceptional care. The BTE programs also demonstrate BCBSTX's commitment to improving health and enhancing wellness of its members..

Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, affecting 25.8 million Americans. Diabetes has multiple complications; the U.S. health care system pays more than $174.00 billion annually in medical costs.

Why Asthma Care?

Asthma disease is the cause of more than 3,447 deaths each year and is indicated as “contributing factor” for nearly 7,000 other deaths each year, One in 12 people (about 25 million or 8% of the population) are affected by asthma.  The U.S. health care system pays more than $56 billion annually in medical costs to treat asthma.

List of Current BTE Recognized Physicians

Choosing the right physician to address the chronic conditions of diabetes, cardiac or asthma is an important decision that requires research. If you have specialty care needs, BCBSTX can help you locate physicians with clinically proven care.

See a list of BTE recognized physicians for Cardiac Care , Diabetes Care , and Asthma Care .

We invite physicians who treat persons with diabetes, cardiac or asthma disease conditions to become BTE recognized  and have an opportunity to earn annual incentives for providing excellent care based on BTE guidelines. BCBSTX will pay a BTE recognized physician $100 or $150.00 depending on the program chosen per BCBSTX qualified patient, per program year.
