Blue Advantage HMO Radiology Quality Initiative (RQI)

November 15, 2013

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is pleased to announce the launch of our Radiology Quality Initiative for our Blue Advantage HMOSM network effective Jan. 1, 2014. When performed in a physician’s office, outpatient department of a hospital or a freestanding imaging center, the ordering physician or other professional provider must call AIM Specialty Health®' (AIM) to obtain an order number before scheduling or performing the following High Tech Outpatient Diagnostic Radiology Procedures:

  • CT/CTA scans
  • MRI/MRA scans
  • SPECT/Nuclear Cardiology studies
  • Pet Scans

To obtain an order number for Blue Advantage HMO members, contact AIM as follows:

Call Center: 800-859-5299
Internet: aimspecialtyhealth.com/goweb

The RQI program helps BCBSTX to:

  • Ensure the providers order the most appropriate outpatient diagnostic imaging for the diagnosis in question, while minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure
  • Ensure studies are performed in the proper sequence
  • Maximize service to members through the efficient use of their benefit plan

The RQI process is based upon clinical appropriateness guidelines that leverage up-to-date clinical evidence and research from medical organizations, such as the American College of Radiology.
