Availity®’ Enhances CareProfile®

July 5, 2011

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is pleased to announce that, effective June 18, 2011, gaining access to a patient's clinical summary has become even easier for our providers due to the new "standalone" CareProfile transaction through Availity. Previously providers had to complete an Eligibility and Benefits Inquiry before accessing the CareProfile tool. If Eligibility and Benefits are not needed, providers can go directly to the CareProfile tool by clicking on CareProfile, then selecting CareProfile Inquiry from the Availity menu. All other features of the CareProfile tool remain the same.

The Availity CareProfile (ACP) tool provides a payer based electronic health record, which includes patient information collected by health plans from physicians, pharmacies, labs, and other health care providers. In accordance with HIPAA laws, only a physician or the physician’s designee treating a patient may access that patient’s CareProfile record.

The information in a CareProfile can help you identify situations like clinical gaps in recommended care services, missed prescription refills and possible drug-to-drug interactions.

Visit the Education and Reference/Provider Tools section of our provider website to learn more about the Availity CareProfile (ACP) tool  and other electronic resources.
