HHS Issues Final Rule – ICD-10 Deadline is Oct. 1, 2014
On Aug. 24, 2012, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a final rule mandating compliance with the new ICD-10 code set by Oct. 1, 2014. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is on track to begin trading partner testing in the second half of 2013 and will be prepared for conversion by the HHS mandate.
This change is intended to enable covered entities to more fully prepare for and test their systems, to ensure successful transition. We encourage all network providers to continue with preparations at an aggressive pace to allow for adequate testing in advance of the compliance date. BCBSTX offers resources to facilitate practice adoption of the new codes.
