Specialty medications include those used in the treatment of complex medical conditions, such as hepatitis, lung disorders, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and other conditions requiring specialty medications.

Your prescription drug coverage may include a specialty pharmacy program through Triessent®*, which is part of our contracting pharmacy network. Coverage for some specialty medications may only be available when obtained through Triessent.
Triessent Specialty Pharmacy Program
Through Triessent, members can have covered specialty medications delivered directly to them or their doctor’s office. When you purchase specialty medications through Triessent, you also receive at no additional charge the following services:
- Coordination of coverage between you, your doctor and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas
- Educational materials about your particular condition and information about managing potential medication side effects
- Syringes, sharps containers and other supplies with every shipment for self-injectables
- 24/7/365 phone access to a pharmacist for urgent medication issues.
To order through Triessent:
- Have your doctor call or fax your prescription to Triessent. Your doctor can call (888) 216-6710 or fax to (866) 203-6010.
- If your plan includes a specialty pharmacy program through Triessent and you have an existing prescription for a specialty medication, you can call (888) 216-6710 to transfer your prescription.
- A Triessent patient care coordinator will contact you to arrange delivery of your medication.

*Triessent is a specialty pharmacy program offered by Prime Therapeutics LLC, a pharmacy benefit management company. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas contracts with Prime Therapeutics to administer this specialty pharmacy program.
