We have a 24 Hour Nurse Line to answer your health care questions any time you need it. The 24 Hour Nurse Line has highly trained nurses that can help you decide what to do to get your family feeling better fast.
A nurse can help you decide if you or your child should go to an urgent care center. A nurse can let you know if you can wait to see the doctor the next day. You can talk to a nurse in your own language about any health problem.

Breastfeeding is the best start you can give your baby. You can get breastfeeding coaching from the In-Home Wellness Nurse, after your baby is born. (See In-Home Wellness Visit section.)

BCBSTX offers dental services for pregnant STAR members age 21 and older, and CHIP Perinate members age 19 or older. These dental services are based on what you need and include:
- Oral exam
- Scaling and planing
- Extractions (pulling of tooth)
You must use a Liberty Dental network provider to receive these dental services. To find a dentist near you, call Liberty Dental Customer Service toll-free at 1-877-550-4028.
We offer stylish frames to our STAR and CHIP kids. Children 18 and under can get new frames worth up to $175.00 each year . Your child must get an eye exam from a Davis eye doctor to receive this benefit. An okay is not needed from your child's PCP.

Help your children stay safe while riding bikes, skate boarding or other outdoor activities. Kids ages three to 18 can get a free safety helmet every two years. To get the safety helmet, take your child to the doctor for an Initial Health Assessment within 90 days of joining BCBSTX, or take your child to get his or her Texas Health Steps or Well Child checkup every calendar year.

Members with hearing or speech loss may call the CCC TTY line at 1-888-292-4485. Fill out the form with your doctor and have the doctor sign the form and add the office stamp. Fax the form to 1-512-349-4867. The helmet will be sent to your address on the completed form.
STAR and CHIP children between two and 12 who have outgrown their baby car seat, and weigh 30–100 pounds, can get a free safety booster seat. To get the booster seat, take your child to the doctor for an Initial Health Assessment within 90 days of joining BCBSTX, or take your child to get his or her Texas Health Steps or Well Child checkup every calendar year.

Our pregnant moms can get a free safety car seat by doing a combination of these things:
- Visit your doctor within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy or within the first month of joining our STAR or CHIP plans.
- Go to the number of prenatal visits you need based on how far along you are in your pregnancy at the time you join BCBSTX.
- Join our free Future Moms program.

STAR members with diabetes who need help monitoring their blood sugar can get a multilingual glucometer that speaks test results in English, Spanish, French and Arabic.
To get the monitor, the member must be willing to join the BCBSTX Diabetes Condition Care program or Case Management for diabetes. Diabetic members who are already in these programs can also get the free multilingual glucometer.

BCBSTX offers a home visit for new moms and babies after the baby is born. Our In-Home Wellness Nurse can visit three to five days after birth or when you request. The nurse will make sure you and your baby are doing well and will answer any questions you may have about your new baby and how to keep your baby healthy and safe.

We can help you get a ride to your health care appointments. You can also get rides to your health classes or therapy. We will send a wheelchair van if you need it.
STAR members should first try to use the Medicaid Transportation Program. If you still need help getting a ride, call us.
CHIP Members can get help with a ride, a place to stay, and for meals for doctor visits that are at least 75 miles away from home. Non-emergency rides, hotels and meals need to be pre-approved and set up ahead of time.
Please call our Community Resource Coodinators at 1-877-375-9097 at least 48 hours before your appointment to schedule a ride. If you need a ride the same day, we will try to get you a ride. Members with hearing or speech loss may call the TTY line at 1-888-292-4485.
Pregnant members can learn up-to-date information about pregnancy and caring for a new baby in these free classes. You must be pregnant to go to these classes. Here are some of the things you will learn:

- Expressing and storing milk
- Going back to work
Classes are at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin and may be offered at other locations.
- If you need a ride, BCBSTX will help you with the free rides service (Non-Emergency Medical Transport) described above.
- Some classes are offered in Spanish. Just ask.

We help STAR and CHIP kids take part in sports and fitness activities by giving free physicals for kids 18 and under who are going to camp or playing sports. Physicals can be done once a year.
Make an appointment with your child's Primary Care Provider (PCP) to get the physical. No authorization is needed. If you have questions, call our Customer Care Center at 1-888-292-4480. Members with hearing or speech loss may call the TTY line at 1-888-292-4485.
If you are pregnant and you are in our BCBSTX STAR, CHIP or CHIP Perinate program, you can get coupons for fresh fruits and vegetables from the Sustainable Food Center (SFC) Austin Farmers' Markets. You can use these coupons two (2) times while you are pregnant. You can get ten (10), $2 coupons each time.
