If you are pregnant and you are in our BCBSTX STAR, CHIP or CHIP Perinate program, you can get coupons for fresh fruits and veggies from the Austin Farmers' Markets. You can use these coupons two (2) times while you are pregnant. You can get ten (10), $2 coupons each time. If you have WIC and you use the coupons at the Farmer's Market East location, the coupons are worth two (2) times the amount on the coupon.

You can learn breastfeeding in our free pregnancy classes. You can also get breastfeeding coaching from the In-Home Wellness Nurse, after your baby is born. You will receive a free breast pump and the nurse will show you how to use it.

BCBSTX offers dental services for STAR and CHIP Perinate members who are 20 years old or older. These dental services include:

  • oral exam
  • x rays
  • cleaning
  • fillings
  • sealants
  • scaling and planing
  • extractions (pulling of tooth)

You must use a Liberty Dental network provider to receive these dental services. To find a dentist near you, call Liberty Dental Customer Service toll-free at 877-550-4028.


We offer stylish frames to our STAR and CHIP kids.  School-age kids five to 18 years of age can get their own stylish frames.  We will pay up to $175.00 for new frames. Your child can get one pair of stylish frames every two years. Your child must get an eye exam from a Davis eye doctor to receive this benefit. An okay is not needed from your child's PCP.

Our pregnant moms can get a free safety car seat.

  • Visit your doctor within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy or within the first month of joining our STAR or CHIP plan.
  • Complete the number of prenatal visits your doctor recommends.
  • Enroll in our STAR or CHIP Future Moms program

You must be pregnant and complete a portion of the activities listed to get a free infant car seat for your baby. Your infant car safety seat will be shipped to you when you fill out and return the car safety seat form . You can also find it in your Member Handbook.

BCBSTX offers a home visit for new moms and babies after the baby is born. Our Home Wellness Nurse can visit three to five days after birth or when you request. The nurse will help you by telling you ways to stay healthy and how to keep your baby healthy and safe.

We can help you get a ride to your health care appointments. You can also get rides to your health classes or therapy. We will send a wheelchair van if you need it.


STAR members should first try to use the Medicaid Transportation Program. If you still need help getting a ride, call us.


CHIP Members can get help finding a ride, a place to stay, and for meals for doctor visits that are at least 75 miles away from home. Non-emergency rides, hotels and meals need to be scheduled ahead of time. You need prior approval.

We have a 24/7 NurseLine to answer your health care questions any time you need it. The 24/7 NurseLine has highly trained nurses that can help you decide what to do to get your family feeling better fast.

 

A nurse can help you decide if you or your child should go to an urgent care center. A nurse can let you know if you can wait to see the doctor the next day. You can talk to a nurse in your own language about any health problem.

 

They will help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call the 24/7 NurseLine at 877-351-8392.


BCBSTX offers Pregnancy, Delivery, and Newborn Care classes for our pregnant members. You can get classes in each three-month trimester. You must be pregnant to join. Here are some of the things you will learn:


First Trimester:

  • Labor stages and phases
  • When to go and what to take to the hospital
  • Lamaze coaching for breathing and relaxation

Second Trimester:

  • Pain relief options
  • Different kinds of labor
  • Early recovery expectations
  • Cesarean Section Experience
  • Brief labor rehearsal

Third trimester:

  • Newborn behavior and appearance
  • Diapering and breastfeeding
  • Newborn genital care
  • Dressing and umbilical cord
  • Newborn health and safety basics

All classes are at Seton Hospitals. You can go to any of the Seton locations.

  • If you need a ride, BCBSTX will help you with the free rides service (Non-Emergency Medical Transport) described above.
  • Some classes are offered in Spanish. Just ask for Spanish classes.
  • We also have a class with all three sessions in one day.

Trying to get your kids more active?  BCBSTX covers sports and camp physicals provided by STAR and CHIP providers once a year. These health exams are covered for kids ages 18 and under.
