Moving from an HMO to HealthSelect during Annual Enrollment
This page is for HMO members who will no longer be served by FirstCare HMO as of September 1, 2010.
BCBSTX wants to help make your move to HealthSelect as simple as possible with these tips:
- Choose a primary care physician (PCP) in the HealthSelect network. Do this as soon as possible, even if your PCP with FirstCare is in the HealthSelect network.
- If you already have a referral to a specialist, have your PCP set up a new referral after you have chosen your HealthSelect PCP. Make sure the specialist is in the HealthSelect network.
- If you need to continue receiving care from a specialist who is not in the HealthSelect network, you may be eligible for transitional benefits.
- If you already have pre-authorization for a hospital stay, set up a new pre-authorization with your HealthSelect physician.
- You will receive a new HealthSelect medical ID card and Caremark prescription drug card by mail around September 1, 2010. Make sure your PCP's name is on the HealthSelect ID card.
If you have not chosen a PCP by September 1, 2010, you have a 60-day grace period. Read "Selecting Your PCP" in your Benefits Book.
If Medicare is your primary coverage, or if you are an out-of-area participant, you do not need to choose a PCP.
