If Medicare is your primary coverage:
- Use the physician or valid provider of your choice – no PCP or referrals.
- Providers who accept Medicare assignment save you money.
- You have the choice to use providers who don’t accept Medicare.
HealthSelect gives you the freedom to use any physician or valid provider of your choice and still receive benefits for covered services. You are not required to select a primary care physician or obtain referrals to a specialist - you simply seek care with the physician or valid provider of your choice.
Although you have the choice to use any physician or valid provider, we recommend that you use a provider who accepts Medicare assignment, as doing so will save you money.
To locate providers who accept Medicare, visit Medicare's online provider directory. If you do not have access to the Internet, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
If you choose to use providers who do not accept Medicare assignment, you could be responsible for additional charges. When using providers who do not accept Medicare assignment, we suggest you use a provider who has a ParPlan contract with BCBSTX. This will eliminate the need for you to file claims and you will not be responsible for charges above the allowable amount.
