Highlights include:


ID Card Reminder

Since there were no changes to HealthSelectSM of Texas benefits, ID cards were not sent to HealthSelect participants.  If an employee continued in HealthSelect, the card with a unique identification number is still valid. 

Employees received an ID card shortly after September 1, 2006, only if they:

  • Were new to HealthSelect,
  • Added or dropped dependents,
  • Made name changes, or
  • Made Primary Care Physician (PCP) Changes.

If you have employees who are new to HealthSelect and need to access care before receiving their ID card, instruct them to give the Social Security Number (SSN) of the subscriber and group number (038000) to their provider.  

The provider can use this information when verifying coverage.  If further assistance is needed, please contact the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) Customer Service Department at (800) 252-8039.

Notice to Coordinators

Please remember to enter a valid SSN for all dependents in ERS OnLine.  Entering the same SSN for the subscriber and any dependents will cause delays in membership updates. 

Also, remember that an address change for an employee must first be completed in ERS OnLine.  BCBSTX cannot update our records until ERS OnLine is updated.

Updated GBP Supplemental Form on the Web!

An employee may either complete the GBP Supplemental Form to select or change their PCP or call BCBSTX Customer Service at (800) 252-8039.  The selection will be effective the day the participant calls or the date the form is signed.

Blue Care Connection

BCBSTX is committed to providing the tools necessary for your employees, who are HealthSelect participants, to mange their health and live happy, healthy lives. 

Blue Care Connection is the disease management and wellness program provided to HealthSelect participants as part of their comprehensive medical coverage and includes:  

  • Wellness Programs which include targeted mailings, Personal Health Manger and more..
  • 24/7 NurseLine, providing access to a nurse and recorded messages 24/7,
  • Special Beginnings®, offering personal guidance and support during pregnancy and 
      beyond; and
  • Disease Management, which offers a voluntary program for participants diagnosed with 
      chronic conditions.

When invited to enroll in one of our disease management programs, participants receive helpful information about their condition.  Eligible participants are contacted, via telephone, by a Blue Care Advisor who will be their personal coach. 

The Blue Care Advisor will assist participants in navigating the health care system, coordinating health care and benefits and promoting wellness while educating and empowering them to make informed choices.

Personal Health Manager

By encouraging employees to participate in Personal Health Manager, you can help us provide them with the tools to better understand their current health status.  Personal Health Manager provides participants online access to information designed to make managing their health easier. 

Personal Health Manager gives participants the ability to: 

  • Set up  personal health records,
  • Ask registered nurses, personal trainers, life coaches and dieticians, questions regarding your health and over all well being, 
  • Access online health content such as health and medication information, wellness tracking tools, videos and interactive tutorials,  
  • Receive targeted wellness and condition-specific information,
  • Access online resources where participants can complete the Health Risk Assessment, research symptoms, investigate treatment options or prescription drugs and their side effects, learn about nutritious meal planning and more.

Health Risk Assessment

The Health Risk Assessment is the online questionnaire participants can complete while in Personal Health Manager.  The results of the questionnaire allow BCBSTX to identify participants who may benefit from our Blue Care Connection program. 

When selected to enroll in the Blue Care Connection program, a Blue Care Advisor will contact the participant and begin to assist them with their specific health care needs. 

To complete the Health Risk Assessment, access the Personal Health Manger through Blue Access for Members.

Value Added Programs

BCBSTX offers HealthSelect participants access to value-added programs through Blue Extras. If you have any questions on these programs, call BCBSTX Customer Service at (800) 252-8039. 

TruHearing - offers discounts to BCBSTX health plan participants as well as their parents and grandparents who are not enrolled in a BCBSTX plan.   TruHearing Flyer (PDF).

Complementary Alternative Medicine - includes a variety of therapies that may help to improve your health, prevent illness, and address existing symptoms and conditions.  HealthSelect participants are automatically eligible to receive up to 30% off standard fees through a national network of more than 35,000 practitioners, spas, wellness and fitness centers.  To learn more about the Complementary Alternative Medicine discounts available, download a flyer.

It Has Never Been Easier to Contact BCBSTX Customer Service!

Our goal at BCBSTX is to provide exemplary customer service to each of our participants.  We know it is important to provide participants a variety of options to contact our Customer Service Representatives such as "Live Chat" and e-mail.

Live Chat gives participants direct and immediate access to a BCBSTX Customer Service Representative.  Our Live Chat feature is similar to "instant messaging". 

E-mail allows participants the freedom to contact BCBSTX Customer Service when it is convenient for them - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  With e-mail, participants receive a response to their inquiries within 24 hours and they decide with it is convenient to review.

Reduce Your Out-of-Pocket Expense!

If participants use non-network providers, they my be responsible for charges above the BCBSTX allowable amount.  Using ParPlan providers may limit the participant's liability for amounts over the allowable

Services received during an inpatient or outpatient admission may include services rendered by a hospital-based physician such as an anesthesiologist, pathologist, radiologist or neonatologist.  If any of these physicians are not in the network, the participant will be responsible for any charges above the BCBSTX allowable amount.  Participants may access the HealthSelect Benefits Book online for additional information.

In an effort to minimize out-of-pocket expenses, participants should also utilize the hospital-based grid, located at http://www.bcbstx.com/hs/provider.htm, to assist in determining which facilities have hospital-based physicians who contract with BCBSTX.
