Medicare (Parts A + B) Coordination of Benefits
How the Dresser medical plan works with Medicare as the payer is important for retirees to understand. Here are features you need to know:
- If you are a retiree who is eligible for Medicare, Medicare is considered your "primary" coverage, whether or not you enroll for Medicare.
- When Medicare is your primary coverage, the Dresser Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Indemnity (BCBSTX) Plan benefits are paid under a "carve out" approach.
- When Medicare is your primary coverage, the benefits payable by the Dresser BCBSTX Indemnity Plan are reduced by the amount of benefits payable by Medicare
- Benefits paid by the Dresser BCBSTX Indemnity Plan and Medicare combined will not be more than the Dresser amount payable before the Medicare offset.
Medicare Part D
Most likely you are aware that on January 1, 2006 the Medicare Prescription Drug plan started. This plan is offered in a variety of options by many different carriers. You may need to enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan to cover the cost of your prescriptions. If you are enrolled in a Dresser retiree medical plan and have questions about the prescription coverage call the Dresser Benefits Administration Group at 1-866-325-8214.
