Dallas, TX — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is hosting a free, health insurance enrollment and wellness event, Countdown to Coverage: Health Care Enrollment and Wellness Fair on Saturday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fair Park Food & Fiber Pavilion in Dallas. The event is part of BCBSTX's Countdown to Coverage, a community-focused effort to enroll Texans in the Health Insurance Marketplace before the enrollment period ends on March 31. BCBSTX is offering health insurance education resources and enrollment opportunities in communities across Texas during the final few weeks of enrollment.
The free event will offer consumers a chance to learn more about their health insurance options, on-site health insurance enrollment assistance in a BCBSTX plan, free medical screenings, 1,000 bags of fresh produce (one per family while supplies last) and a free children’s activity area.
"Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is committed to raising awareness in the Dallas community about the importance of enrolling in health insurance before the March 31 deadline," said Dr. Dan McCoy, chief medical officer for BCBSTX. "The Countdown to Coverage Health Care Enrollment and Wellness Fair is a great opportunity to learn more about your options and receive in-person assistance, wellness screenings and community resources."
The Countdown to Coverage: Health Care Enrollment and Wellness Fair will have 25 enrollment stations where individuals and families can discuss their options with enrollment counselors in English and Spanish. Additionally, there will be resources for consumers interested in learning how to use their new health insurance and information about the new healthcare law. Kroger and The University of North Texas College of Pharmacy will provide free glucose, blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol screenings (while supplies last). Several community organizations are planning to be on-site to provide health and wellness information, including: American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, It's Time Texas/Active Life, Kids In Home Therapy, Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic, Metrocare Services, North Texas Food Bank, Susan G. Komen Dallas County and Ventanilla de Salud (Mexican Consulate).
The event will feature a Family Fun Zone with fun physical activities provided by Playworks, free face painting, a balloon artist and photo booth.
With only weeks left in the current enrollment period, BCBSTX is reaching out to consumers through its Countdown to Coverage campaign to answer questions about health insurance options and the enrollment process. The company is providing information and assistance in communities across Texas through events, retail stores, traveling mobile assistance centers, online resources and social media outreach.
BCBSTX offers Bronze, Silver and Gold plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace. In every Texas community, the BCBSTX Bronze plan is the lowest-priced plan available.
