Do you have diabetes? What kind of tests do you need to get?

Diabetics: regularly monitor and lower cholesterol and triglycerides.
People with diabetes are two to four times more likely to have heart disease than someone without diabetes. People with diabetes need to lower cholesterol in the blood just like people with heart disease. Thatís why they should get their blood lipid levels (cholesterol and triglycerides) and blood pressure tested regularly.

What can you do?
If you are diabetic, monitor blood pressure and lipid levels to help keep them in safe ranges. Talk with your doctor or health care provider about testing your blood lipid levels (cholesterol and triglycerides) and blood pressure regularly. Taking medications that your doctor gives you can help control blood sugar, blood pressure or cholesterol levels. Eat right, be active, and quit smoking.
