BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF TEXAS EMPLOYEES RAISE FUNDS FOR THREE MARSHALL CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS

August 15, 2005, Marshall, Texas – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announced today that employees in its Marshall facility have raised more than $2,185 which they will contribute to local charities.  To date, contributions have gone to Meals on Wheels Ministry, Inc. ($1,500), Angel Flight South Central ($500) and Marshall Area Emergency Fund ($185).

The Meals on Wheels Ministry provides 3,000 nutritious daily meals to senior citizens and  the Marshall area Emergency Fund sets aside funding to provide assistance to the community in case of emergency/disasters.  Angel Flight’s mission includes arranging free transportation, using private aircraft and volunteer pilots, for patients and family, medical personnel and organs when other transportation is unavailable or unaffordable.

The contributions are part of the health insurer’s Employee Charitable Campaign (ECC), which gives BCBSTX employees an opportunity to earmark annual contributions for support of selected local charitable organizations.

“The employees at our Marshall facility do an excellent job of demonstrating their support of our community,” says Bryan Doerstling, director of BCBSTX’s Marshall Claims and Customer Service Center. “Our goal is to cooperate with local organizations that work tirelessly to meet the needs of individuals and families in three areas that reflect our corporate objectives—health care, education and human services. We are committed to being part of the solution by continuing to donate funds to worthy causes that make a difference in our community.”
