July 29, 2005, Richardson, Texas – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas announced today that employees in its Dallas/Fort Worth area offices will contribute $5,000 to the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Denton County. A check presentation will be made by Blue Bear, the Blue Cross health and wellness ambassador/mascot, when he delivers coloring books and stuffed bears for children at the CAC on August 3.
The mission of the Children’s Advocacy Center is to provide justice and healing for abused children through interagency collaboration. The Center provides free individual and group therapy for child victims of sexual or other severe physical abuse.
The contributions raised by DFW area Blue Cross employees, more than $20,000 this year, are part of the health insurer’s Employee Charitable Campaign (ECC), which gives employees an opportunity to earmark annual contributions for support of selected local charitable organizations.
“The employees at our DFW facilities do an excellent job of demonstrating their support of our community,” says Mark Lane, senior manager, Community and Public Affairs. “Our goal is to cooperate with local organizations that work tirelessly to meet the needs of individuals and families in three areas that reflect our corporate objectives—health care, education and human services. We’ve made a commitment to be part of the solution and that includes donating funds to worthy causes that make a difference in our community.”
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is the only statewide, non-investor owned health coverage provider in Texas, serving nearly 4 million members in all 254 counties. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is a division of Health Care Service Corporation, a Mutual Legal Reserve Company, an Independent Licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
