BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF TEXAS EMPLOYEES RAISE FUNDS FOR TWO WACO CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS

July 11, 2005, Waco, Texas – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announced today that employees in its Waco facility have raised more than $650 which they will contribute to local charities.  To date, contributions have gone to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Central Texas Chapter) for $250 and to Central Texas Sickle Cell Anemia Association ($350).

MADD’s mission is to stop drunk driving, provide support to victims and prevent underage drinking.  The objective of the Sickle Cell Anemia Association is to bring about a greater awareness of sickle cell anemia and sickle cell trait through information, education, counseling and testing.

The contributions are part of the health insurer’s Employee Charitable Campaign (ECC), which gives BCBSTX employees an opportunity to earmark annual contributions for support of selected local charitable organizations.

“The employees at our Waco facility do an excellent job of demonstrating their support of our community,” says Jean Burns, director of BCBSTX’s Waco claims and customer service center. “Our goal is to cooperate with local organizations that work tirelessly to meet the needs of individuals and families in three areas that reflect our corporate objectives—health care, education and human services. We are committed to being part of the solution by continuing to donate funds to worthy causes that truly make a difference in our community.”
