BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF TEXAS EMPLOYEES RAISE FUNDS, SUPPORT TWO WICHITA FALLS CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS

July 11, 2005, Wichita Falls, Texas – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announced today that employees in its Wichita Falls facility have raised more than $3,000 which they will contribute to local charities.  To date, the contributions have been earmarked for Whispers of Hope Horse Farm ($2,000) and Children’s Aid Society of West Texas ($1,000).

Whispers of Hope provides a safe, therapeutic riding facility to enhance the abilities of mentally and physically challenged youth in the community and the Children’s Aid Society provides shelter, supervision and counseling for children in crisis.

The contributions are part of the health insurer’s Employee Charitable Campaign (ECC), which gives BCBSTX employees an opportunity to earmark annual contributions for support of selected local charitable organizations.

“The employees at our Wichita Falls facility do an excellent job of demonstrating their support of our community,” says Leslie Hughes, senior manager of BCBSTX’s Wichita Falls claims and customer service center. “Our goal is to cooperate with local organizations that work tirelessly to meet the needs of individuals and families in three areas that reflect our corporate objectives—health care, education and human services. We are committed to being part of the solution by continuing to donate funds and volunteer hours to worthy causes that make a difference in our community.”
