June 30, 2006, Amarillo, Texas - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas leaders gathered along with citizens and local leaders in Amarillo, turning the first shovel of soil to mark the beginning of construction on the new Blue Cross customer service center. The groundbreaking celebration for the facility, which is slated for completion in December 2007, took place at 11 a.m. at the site of the new customer service facility, 7901 Wallace Blvd., in the Point West Business Park. The new facility, the seventh such Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas service center in the state, will be designed to accommodate approximately 500 employees.

"As we look forward to completing our customer service center in Amarillo,” said Martin G. Foster, president, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, “we are grateful for the support of the Amarillo business community and city leadership for partnering with us to make this project a success. We are also confident that the outstanding work force in the Amarillo area will be there to help us bring the new facility's operations online, providing high levels of customer service, when the facility is completed."

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will announce specific hiring plans for the facility as the Dec. 2007 completion date draws closer. Until then, the company's focus will be on completing construction of the service center on schedule.
