New mission a bold step forward; Health and wellness a priority at all levels, staffing, products, human resources, and community involvement
Richardson, TX (March 10, 2008) – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) today announced a new mission reflecting cultural changes spanning all aspects of the company's business and corporate citizenship. The new mission statement, "to promote the health and wellness of our members and our communities through accessible, cost-effective, quality health care," reflects the company's focus on health and wellness both internally and externally.
"Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas was the first health insurance company in Texas. By actively embracing and promoting health and wellness, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is once again playing a leadership role in transforming health care in our state," says Darren Rodgers, president, BCBSTX.

Tools and resources promote members’ health and wellness
BCBSTX today announced new wellness tools and resources that enhance the role of health insurance. Now, employers can integrate educational tools; lifestyle management programs; worksite wellness initiatives; and communications to help members manage their health.

Worksite wellness leader recognizes insurer’s own wellness programs
The Wellness Councils of America awarded HCSC, which operates BCBSTX, a 2007 Gold-level "Well Workplace Award." The award recognizes the company for the implementation of successful wellness programs at BCBSTX and its Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Illinois.
